Miley Cyrus Finally Admits That She And Nick Jonas Were Dating

Miley Cyrus has finally confirmed her long-rumored relationship with fellow Disney star Nick Jonas in an extensive interview in the forthcoming September issue of Seventeen magazine.
While neither had previously confirmed the relationship, it has long been the subject of media speculation — Cyrus said in the interview that "it was really hard to keep it from people."
"Nick and I loved each other," Cyrus told the magazine. "We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn't fun."
(Nick and the brothers held a press conference on Wednesday talking about their new single, the lyrics of which address Nick's diabetes.)
Miley admitted that things got dark for her after the two broke up at the end of 2007 — so dark that she even dyed her hair black to reflect how sad she was. "At first I bawled for a month straight," she said. "I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black.
"When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights — and so I did that, and I got myself looking great," she continued. "And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, 'I want to make my hair black now — I don't want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core.' I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, 'I've got to be by myself for now and just figure out who I really am.' "
The brothers were quick to come to Miley's defense in the wake of her controversial Vanity Fair photos earlier this year.
The 15-year-old superstar said she currently isn't involved with anyone, and she likes it that way. "Since [the breakup], I've realized that I've met so many great guys, but I like being the girl nobody can have," she added. "No one can touch me, no one's mine. I'm myself. I think it's sexy to do your own thing."
Although Nick is rumored to have found love with "Wizards of Waverly Place" star Selena Gomez, Miley hasn't given up on the idea that maybe, someday, she and Nick might rekindle their love affair.
"Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life," she speculated, "or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!"
Do you think Miley and Nick might have been a bit young to know what love is? Let us know in the Newsroom blog ...

Selena Gomez Makes It Clear: There's No Beef With Miley Cyrus

Selena Gomez wants to make things clear: She has no beef with fellow Disney teen sensation Miley Cyrus for posting YouTube videos bashing Selena and "Camp Rock" star Demi Lovato.
"Dealing with the press is something that you've gotta start getting used to," Gomez told MTV News, "and you know people want something to talk about, so they're going to have the two Disney girls — or three Disney girls — kind of feuding.
"There's no feud — there's nothing to feud about, so why start a fight?" she continued. "It's something that we all have to live with, and unfortunately it involves friends."
Of course, Miley later apologized for making the videos, but recent media chatter about Gomez being "the next Miley" has only added to the drama.
"I'm not interested in being anybody but myself, and I'm not here to replace anyone," Gomez said. "I think that she's a wonderful performer, and of course it's a compliment. But I would like to take a different route."
Gomez said she already has a plan, and it may not include the Disney family. "Acting is definitely my passion all the way," she said. "I would love to step out of Disney and maybe do a couple of roles — maybe challenging roles and fun roles, new things like that," but she quickly clarified that she'll "always be with my Disney Channel family." (Not least because she's got a record deal with Hollywood Records.)
One thing that Selena is really looking forward to is the opportunity to vote in 2012. Until then, she's out there spreading the word and working with the campaign UR Votes Count and letting young people know it's cool to vote.
"I'm very excited to be supporting it. It's basically educating teens on why it's important to vote and what's going on in the nation and what's going on the world," she said. "So as a teen it's a huge responsibility to think about who I want to run our country. So I think kids don't really get that, so I would love to educate them more on that."

Miley Cyrus' Breakout Bows At #1 But Doesn't Come Close To Lil Wayne's Million

When the world's most famous 15-year-old releases a record, chances are it's going to sell like ice cream in hell. So, heading into this week, it was pretty much a given that Miley Cyrus' first studio album not to feature the words "Hannah" or "Montana" in the title would open as the nation's best-selling release on next week's Billboard albums sales chart. The one thing no one could predict, however, was exactly how many copies Breakout would end up selling.
The answer, according to Nielsen SoundScan sales figures, is: not nearly as many as you might imagine. Given the fact that Cyrus' visage graces the T-shirts of millions of tween girls and her Disney Channel series has accrued a rabid following, you'd have thought Breakout would crush the 1 million-plus sales generated by Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III, 2008's biggest first-week performer. But it didn't even come close.
The teen star's second #1 debut — Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus put up week-one sales of 326,000 last summer — sold close to 371,400 copies during its first week on store shelves. For Cyrus, selling 371,400 records is still a tremendous achievement, especially for someone so new to the music industry. In fact, Breakout is the second-biggest seller of any release from a female artist this year, right behind the 463,000 Mariah Carey's E=MC2 sold during its first week of commercial availability. And as past Disney-associated releases have shown, Cyrus' record could end up being a grower, and not a first-week sales shower.
Country act Sugarland's Love on the Inside is a distant #2 with 313,600 debut-week scans. Those weren't the week's sole newcomers to the top 200, just the only two to crack the top 10. They join the "Mamma Mia" soundtrack at #3 (with 168,000 sold); Kid Rock's Rock N Roll Jesus at #4 (92,800); Wayne's Tha Carter III at #5 (85,200); Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends at # 6 (74,700); the "Camp Rock" soundtrack at #7 (66,600); Nas' Untitled at #8 (63,300); Now That's What I Call Music!, Vol. 28 at #9 (37,000); and Taylor Swift's Beautiful Eyes at #10 (35,100).
There are 18 other new releases to discuss, including Nine Inch Nails' Slip, which enters the chart at #13 after selling 29,100 copies. The self-titled debut EP from One Day As a Lion, the latest project from Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha, follows NIN at #28, scanning 17,200 copies its first week in stores. Candlebox return at #32 with Into the Sun, which generated sales of 14,400, while R&B singer Noel Gourdin's After My Time follows at #36, with debut-week sales of 13,700. U2's Live From Paris bows at #54, scanning 10,200 copies, and Counting Crows' Live From Soho enters at #66, with 8,600 sold. Slightly Stoopid's Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid enters at #73 with 8,200 scans, and Pepper's Pink Crustaceans takes the #83 spot, selling 7,400.
The Classic Crime's Silver Cord enters the chart at #123, after selling 5,800 units, while the Black Kids' Partie Traumatic follows at #127, with 5,500 sold. Hell Rell's Black Mask, Black Gloves: The Ruga Edition debuts at #131, thanks to 5,400 scans. Sky Eats Airplane's self-titled offering fills the #172 slot with 4,000 copies snatched up. Austrian Death Machine's Total Brutal follows at #179, with 3,700 sold. Lastly, coming in at #189 with 3,400 scans, is CSS' Donkey.

Kanye West Joins Lil Wayne, Bemoans Nine Inch Nails Face-Off At Virgin Fest

BALTIMORE — Fans got more than they bargained for at this weekend's Virgin Mobile Festival — more Kanye, anyway.
Not content to close out the two-day festival with his headlining Sunday slot, Mr. West stormed the stage earlier in the day, joining Lil Wayne for a meeting of hip-hop's hottest. Maybe 'Ye was pulling double duty to outshine the legends (Bob Dylan, Iggy and the Stooges), big rock veterans (Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Offspring), and upstarts (Paramore, Jack Johnson, Duffy) who took the Virgin stage over the weekend at Pimlico Race Course.
Rocking a Louis Vuitton backpack, West joined Weezy on Sunday afternoon to spit his verse from the "Lollipop" remix without skipping a beat. The collabo was the high-energy point of a blistering, better-late-than-never performance. Showing up a half-hour late for an hourlong set would be a cardinal sin for most artists, but Weezy more than made up for it. The crowd chanted his name and even booed briefly while waiting for his set, but it was all love once Lil Wayne hit the stage. Wayne came with a mix of old-school, new-school and a lot of gratitude. "How many of y'all got Tha Carter III?" he asked. "I f---in' appreciate you."
He even took time to honor Static Major, asking for a moment of silence for the late rapper and songwriter before jumping into the song that catapulted Wayne from an underground mixtaper to an undeniable mainstream superstar. After welcoming Kanye up for "Lollipop," Wayne wrapped his set with even more gratitude and some laughs, lip-syncing to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" before leaving the stage.
While Wayne's day was done, Kanye was just getting started. He returned to the stage later that night like a hurricane, shrouded in flashing lights and fog. Fans threw up their Roc-A-Fella diamonds early and held them high all night. No irony was lost on 'Ye, who made it a point to prove his authenticity before jumping into "Diamonds From Sierra Leone."
"I work real hard at this rapping sh--," he said. "This is real rap."
Kanye dove into a set spanning his entire career, from his most recent verse from Young Jeezy's "Put On" to his humble beginnings on "All Comes Down," asking fans to "scream so loud I can't hear the music" if they knew the song.
And, of course, 'Ye talked, touching on everything from his mother's death to Barack Obama's nomination to crime in the festival's host city of Baltimore. He freestyled as well, expressing his gratitude for fame and his frustration that comes along with it. The raw emotion was undeniable. "I lost my mama/ I went through so much drama/ I went through so much drama/ I'm for Obama," he rapped. He then described his journey over to Pimlico Race Course, noting the flashing blue lights above cameras stationed throughout the 'hood and being content with the fact that even though many Baltimore natives couldn't afford to attend the concert, they could still see and hear the show from the parking lot outside the gates. He also shouted out MySpace, the Internet and Lil Wayne before beginning "Touch the Sky."
West took a bit of a jab at the festival's schedule, specifically the choice concertgoers had to make between his performance and one from Nine Inch Nails happening at the same time at the other end of the park (a dilemma faced by fans at Chicago's Lollapalooza a week earlier). "It's not a black-or-white thing, it's not a rap-or-rock-and-roll thing," he exclaimed. "It's a good-music thing. We jam about good things from the heart. How can you pick between me and Trent Reznor?"
But at the end of the day, Kanye's focus all came back down to his fans. Again freestyling, 'Ye expressed his eagerness to please those who came out to support him. "I hope you had a good time ... f--- that, the time of your life!" And with diamonds high in the sky and screams that could be heard around the block, the crowd's enthusiasm matched Kanye's (no easy feat).
The day before, it was up to West's fellow Chi-Town native Lupe Fiasco, who had fans bobbing their heads and singing along to "Superstar" and "Kick, Push." Despite technical difficulties, Lupe aimed to please, shouting after his microphone problem was resolved, "Let's hype this bitch back up, all right?" Given the amount of crowd-surfing during his set and the volume of fans chanting his name when he left the stage, he seemed to succeed.
But the weekend wasn't all about hip-hop. The Foos, the Stooges, Paramore and NIN brought the rock, but the guitar heroes of the day might have been Stone Temple Pilots. Taking the stage later than expected (thanks, Weezy), STP seemed to be the picture of reunification. The band was completely in sync thanks to its current 65-date tour. The focus wasn't mainly on themselves, though. Scott Weiland shared the love, shouting out those sharing the bill. "What a great day of f---ing music!," he gushed. "How about Iggy and the Stooges? And Nine Inch Nails are coming up!" He also had love for the crowd. "What a sea of energy," he exclaimed just before the crowd sang and bobbed along to every note of the band's breakthrough hit "Plush."

50 CENT - YAYO BEGS HIS MUM TO MOVE

50 CENT's G-UNIT sidekick TONY YAYO is begging his mother to move out of "the hood" after thugs riddled her home with bullets. The rapper insists the home was just a random target and his mother doesn't have a price on her head - but he's desperate to find her a safer place to live. The only problem is his proud Haitian mum wants to stay where she is in Queens, New York.Yayo says, "She don't want to move. I begged her plenty of times... (but) my mom's values are different. She feels like she prays and she's got God on her side."I'm trying to explain to her, `Mom, I'd rather somebody come and shoot at me than shoot at the house for no reason.'"Ironically, Yayo's mother lives just a block away from where 50 Cent was shot nine times in a pre-career attack on his life.50 says, "She's still staying in the same area. Back To The 'Bash' With T.I. : Mixtape Monday

First off, I'm so tired of hearing about that Brett Favre! My Giants knocked you out the box last year. Packers, just trade him already. I hate turning on "Sports Center" every night and hearing about this dude. ... OK, now let's get to the business at hand. This week, we're not bringing you our traditional mixtape pick of the week. It's time to step back to look at some of the best things we've been a part of, listened to or watched so far this year. We'll be doing so periodically for the rest of the summer. In the first installment, how could we not shout out the best ensemble one-off show of the year?
The Birthday Bash concert held last month in Atlanta was just plain foolery! My partner in crime, Rahman Dukes, and I went down and had a chance to behold the Dirty South putting on! It was one for the record books: surprises by Usher and Kanye West, Gucci Mane pulling out his ridiculous jewelry, and that giant poster Shawty Lo hung onstage proclaiming, "A new King has been born," classic. Tip's and Jeezy's performances go without saying, and Plies really surprised us. Enough yapping, check it out in the above video. Next week, we're bringing you the new mixtape by one of the most controversial men in hip-hop. He recently had his own birthday bash.

'Hood's Heavy Rotation: Bubbling Below The Radar

» The Game (featuring Lil Wayne) - "My Life" » Pleasure P - "Luckiest Man" » Lloyd (featuring Plies) - "Year of the Lovers"» Joe Budden - "Who (Part 3)" » Max B - "Cake" » Re-Up Gang - "Money"
Celebrity Faves
Jermaine Dupri supplied tracks to Nas' Untitled way back when it was still called Nigger. Although the young, fly, flashy and very successful producer didn't make the cut, he's still a fan of how Esco hasn't let his lyricism diminish and continues to set an example for other MCs.
"I think he really sees the game needs him," JD opined. "I can see it in his face and body that he's in a place where he knows the game needs him. I think [the album] is hot. Nas is definitely an album maker."

The Streets Is Talking: News & Notes From The Underground

Last week, Nas told MTV News that he was dreaming about doing entire albums with Dr. Dre and DJ Premier. There's one other person he wants to go for an extended play with, a collaborator who may be a little easier to wrangle than the two production greats: his wife, Kelis.
"Me and my wife was thinking about doing this record together," he said.
Nas also said that since he has so many unreleased records in the can, it would be very logical to put out a Lost Tapes 2. But let's be very clear, the Queens legend isn't pulling the plug on Untitled anytime soon. It was the #1 album in the country in its first week of release, and more singles are coming. "Hero," produced by Polow Da Don, set the table for him.
"I was almost gonna not do a single, but I wanted a song I could hear in the clubs, 'cause I knew the album didn't have that," he said of the last-minute addition to his project. "I wanted a song that I could hear when I'm poppin' bottles. That's what 'Hero' was for me. Polow was one of my favorite guys; he's just a nice-ass guy. ... I was like, 'No single, no video. Let's just make this a record that we talk about.' "
Nas said he did take into account the people's opinions.
"Fans would have been like, 'But why he did it like that?' "
One of the songs that stick out to Nas from his new album is its (un)title track.
"I look at a lot of people who died trying to fight for freedom, like Che, Malcolm, Martin, Gandhi, all the way to Bunchy Carter, the Panthers," he explained. "So many different people from all over the world. And that just made me go, 'Damn.' You know, everybody says, 'Why'd they shoot down the people who are righteous? Why do they shoot down the people who just want things to be right?' It makes everyone scared to stand up. So even if you don't believe with [Louis] Farrakhan's beliefs, you gotta say the man dedicated his whole life to standing up for something that he believed in.
"He is proof that you can live to be old," Nas continued. "Not saying, 'Go say what Farrakhan is saying,' that's that man. But if you have something that you have to say, but you feel like ... your life is threatened cause of it, and you need examples [look at Farrakhan]."
On the track, Nas rhymes about standing up for his own convictions.
"In the beginning [of the song], it says, 'No revolutionary gets old/ Or so I'm told/ You're left full of bullet holes when you tell the people go free/ Oh? It's just a matter of days before they come and get me .../ I stood in the face of damnation. Satan, spat at 'em, flat out disgraced em.' Meaning, no matter who you are, say what you feel. Be who you supposed to be. If you gonna be the resistance, then be that resistance. Do what you have to do. Don't be scared to die, is basically it in other words. And if you are scared to die, here's a great example to go to: people like Farrakhan, people like Jim Brown, so many people, Muhammad Ali ... Ice Cube, yo! Crazy sh--." ...
You know Albert Daniels as Brooklyn from the 2006 coming-of-age flick, "ATL." But in reality, Al Be Back (his hip-hop moniker) is from the Bronx, New York, and spent his early years as an aspiring MC under the wing of BX icon, Big Pun.
"Pun was my family," Back told us. Pun hooked him up with Chris Robinson, a video director who made his directorial debut with "ATL." Back is making his own movies now, on wax. He's shopping a deal, but already has co-signs from heavyweights such as Kanye West and KRS-One. The Blastmaster and MC Lyte appear on Back's song "16, 17, 18." Al Be's new single, "Love You More" (shout out to Tina Marie on the sample), debuted recently on New York radio station Hot 97 and last week, we have a little somethin'-somethin' for you. Take a look at the homie's new video, "Come On." You tell us if you think he's nice.

Tyrese Gibson Doubts Shia LaBeouf's Injury Will Delay

SAN DIEGO — Shia LaBeouf is currently recovering at Cedars-Sinai Hospital from extensive hand surgery, as well as injuries to his knee and head caused by a car accident in Hollywood on Sunday morning, but the "Indiana Jones" star won't be getting any sympathy cards from his "Transformers" co-star Tyrese Gibson, who downplayed the incident when MTV News caught up with him on Sunday at Comic-Con.
Asked if there were any contingency plans in place given the early word that LaBeouf might be in the hospital upwards of a month, Gibson scoffed: "A month? He won't be in the hospital for a month. He just hurt his hand. He can afford a private nurse."
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" had a buffer window built into its hectic shooting schedule early on, given fears of a possible SAG strike last month. Whether that buffer will be used to accommodate LaBeouf's potential absence is unknown, but for now, production is moving full steam ahead, Gibson said.
"Right now, there's only three films being shot in this country," he proudly declared on where production stood at the moment. "We got two and a half more months. I just did two night shoots in a row out there in Long Beach. We rolling, man. Right now, we rolling."
A Paramount spokesperson had no comment when MTV News asked how long filming could be delayed due to LaBeouf's accident.
LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and released. A statement from his spokesperson indicated he had plans to return to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" within the month.
As for what we can expect out of the highly anticipated sequel, Gibson said he's most looking forward to, well, more of himself.
"Go on the Internet — a lot of the fans out there were like, we want to see more of my presence in the film, and the studio and Michael Bay heard that, so Michael's been putting the camera on me a lot more Epps in that film," he revealed. "So thank you all for those e-mails. I appreciate it."
To prepare for his expanded role, Gibson confessed that he called for help from a trusted friend. Could it be, then, that the most important addition to the "Transformers" crew isn't a new Decepticon or Autobot but — Will Smith?
"Will Smith and I have been working out every day," Gibson said. "Because of that, I've lost 46 pounds for this movie."
On the subject of new cars in the film, Gibson was decidedly more mum, although he did reveal that, like with the first film, director Michael Bay was working with car manufacturers to get the very latest designs.
"We have some cars in this film that you will not be seeing into 2011, and that's top-secret. You won't be able to buy them until 2011, they already in the film. Crazy," Gibson said.
It's a philosophy of "more" and "bigger" embraced by Bay but never before seen on this scale, Gibson said.
"There's way more robots, way more craziness. Once again, you are going to see some things that are Oscar-worthy as far as special effects," he said, smiling. "I'm just honored to be a part of it."
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" opens June 26, 2009.

'Twilight' Exclusive: Stars Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene To Reunite For The Film 'Strife'

MTV News has exclusively learned that Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene have signed on to "Strife," a film set to begin production in a few weeks. The movie will arrive in theaters next year, shortly after audiences will have seen Lutz and Greene as Cullen clan members Emmett and Alice, respectively.
Directed by filmmaker Omid Shabkhiz, "Strife" tells the story of three friends struggling with day-to-day life in the drug- and gang-infested streets of Los Angeles. Caught in a world of violence and tragedy, they struggle to discover the hope and love that can help them persevere.
The burly, charismatic 23-year-old Lutz is set to play Jagger, a smooth-talking but troubled young man who gets caught in his own game when he falls into debt. His desperate actions set much of the film's plot into action.
Meanwhile, the sweet-smiling Greene has been cast as Trish, a well-educated girl who hits the streets of Los Angeles with the best of intentions. Passionate about women's rights and social awareness, Greene will be a stark contrast to Lutz's character.
She'll also be the voice of reason for the film's third lead, a man named Lorenzo, played by up-and-comer Kyle Schmid ("The Covenant," "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"). Schmid's character is a privileged young man from a wealthy family who nonetheless has to fight temptations as he tries to remain loyal to his friends.
The reunion of Lutz and Greene should please the army of Twilighters, who are likely to be intrigued by the thought of their squeaky-clean franchise stars getting gritty in an independent film. While Lutz's career is taking off with roles on the new "90210" TV show and HBO's wartime drama "Generation Kill," his role in "Strife" should allow him to balance "Twilight" with an impressive show of versatility. The 21-year-old Greene, meanwhile, will be landing in her most prominent film role yet after several years of TV work on shows like "Shark" and "Crossing Jordan."
As of press time, we could not confirm whether Greene will be allowed to grow her hair long again before the film begins production. We also could not confirm whether the film would take extra security measures to keep the Lutz-obsessed Web site Kellmett-Happens.com away long enough to let their so-called "Princess" do his job.
"Strife" will be produced by Christopher Peters, Peter Banifaz and director Shabkhiz. It is due to begin filming in September, with more actors to be announced over the next few weeks.
Every Tuesday is "Twilight" Tuesday here at MTV News! Check back here each and every week for the hottest scoop on the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's beloved vampire series, and we'll still bring you breaking "Twilight" news throughout the rest of the week. And make sure you check out the MTV Movies Blog for our ongoing "Twilight" discussions each and every day.

Kanye West And MTV Hear Veterans' Stories -- And Help Them -- In 'Homecoming,' Airing Tonight

and MTV's Sway Calloway surprise three veterans with visits to their homes. Kanye and Sway listen to their stories, thank them for their contributions to the country, and then help the vets confront their challenges, including debt and adjusting to civilian life.
"There are hundreds of thousands of veterans who have fallen through the cracks," Kanye says in the show. "I wanted to hear their stories."West is visibly moved by the veterans' stories. "This past year I suffered a lot of losses," he says, referring primarily to the death of his mother, Donda. (The MC's Dr. Donda West Foundation and MTV are providing most of the money for the gifts to the veterans.) "I know my music inspires people, but you can always do more."
One vet, 25-year-old Tirann Laws from Oklahoma City, suffers from post-tramautic stress disorder and has found himself in debt and having difficulty holding down a job. He says he wants to return to school. West and MTV offer him that opportunity — but as grateful as Laws is, Kanye also finds himself changed by the experience. "You make me want to improve myself," West says. "We thought I'd come in and be an inspiration to you and lift your spirits, but actually you're inspirational to me because I'm going through a lot of losses."
Next up, Kanye meets with aspiring rapper Lorenzo Zarate, 24, at his home in Austin, Texas. Zarate's wife has a baby on the way, and the couple say they are just weeks away from being forced to leave their home. During the visit, Kanye and Zarate find common ground in Zarate's home studio — "I remember those days," Kanye reminisces — and he plays a bit of "Can't Tell Me Nothing" on Zarate's keyboard. Then the gifts are revealed: paying six months' rent, a new microphone, a week of studio time and an internship at a local radio station.
Like Zarate, 24-year-old Shameeka Gray of Charlotte, North Carolina, came back from war and found herself in tremendous debt, but must devote most of her time to caring for her young son. Kanye related to Gray over the subject of death; she said it was when someone in her company died that she realized she could die too.
Kanye said, "Sometimes it's definitely easier to not even accept death and just act like you're in a bad dream and you could wake up from it." Gray's gift is paying off her credit card debt, and setting up a college-tuition fund for her son.
Profiles for all three vets (Shameeka Gray, Tirann Laws and Lorenzo Zarate) are available on the Choose or Lose site, where viewers can also interact with the veterans and find ways to take action on these issues and share their own thoughts on the subject.
"Choose or Lose & Kanye West Present: Homecoming" airs tonight (Monday, July 28) at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

Fabolous, Clipse, Maino Weigh In On How Rick Ross' Alleged Prison-Guard Past Might Affect His Career

Rick Ross says he's laughing at the bloggers. Well, some bloggers certainly are taking liberties with the Miami MC's recent corrections-officer scandal .
Since TheSmokingGun.com reported earlier this week that the rapper was once a prison guard, some people have been posting Photoshopped pictures of Ross on various police-movie posters. There's Ross' head on RoboCop's body, Ross' head replacing Martin Lawrence on a fake "Big Mommas House poster, Ross' face replacing Sylvester Stallone's on a faux "Cop Land" poster — you get the picture (no pun intended). Meanwhile, the message boards have been heating up with talk of rap's Biggest Boss. Some people are confused, while some have vilified him. This is the same guy whose music they were pumping just two weeks ago. His music is still just as banging as it was prior to this scandal, and from the two freestyles he just dropped, his skills have not diminished. So the question is: With so many people having bought into Ross' 'hood-legend persona, has this dance in the rumor mill created a rift between Ross and his fans that can't be patched up?
"I think real n---as won't think so," the Clipse's Malice said a couple of days ago in New York when asked if this episode will hurt Ross' credibility. "That don't mean what he's talking about [in his rhymes] ain't true. The thing I wish is he came clean, if in fact that is him [in the photos]. 'Cause you ain't gotta make no excuses for whatever you did. You might have thought differently at one point in time. I don't think that should discredit that man."
"I'm not even going to go that far into it," said Mal's brother, Pusha T. "I don't know what it's gonna do to him, what it can or what it should do to him. I know the hip-hop community has given passes for much [worse]."
Fabolous suggested that his Def Jam labelmate keep making hits and not to let the banter get to him.
"I don't know if it will really hurt him," Fab said on the set of Ryan Leslie's "Addicted" video. "As an artist, I think Rick Ross makes great music. He's always shown me love and respect whenever I met him. Everybody has a past. I don't know if [being a prison guard] is his past or not. That's not my place to say. I think if he continues to do what he does, sweep all that garbage under the rug — you know what? That's success. That's success taking a shot back at him. All of a sudden past pictures come up. He should just keep doing what he do."
Maino, on the other hand, wasn't as forgiving. During a recent listening session for his album, he gave his opinion on Ross. (The footage was posted on Blogxilla.com.)
"I'm disappointed," the Brooklyn MC said when asked about Ross. "I'm really disappointed. I pride myself on being 100 percent who I am. If I went to college and had a job before, I would just say that. ... Him, in my opinion, I just think he should have just addressed it. ... 'Look, man. I was 19. It was a part of my life. ... I got to the coke later.'
"I don't have a problem with what he was doing before the rap game," Maino added. "That ain't my beef with him. The thing is, he was denying he was doing it. He said [the pictures] was Photoshopped and wasn't real."
Fat Joe didn't speculate on the authenticity of the pictures, but he did give a little insight into Ross the person. "He's a great dude. He's my friend," Joe said. "We'll just wait to see what [else] he has to say about it."
In n videotaped interview that recently hit the Web, Rick Ross denied ever being a prison guard.

Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey Among MTV VMA Nominees For Best Male, Female Video

We asked for your help, and you did not disappoint. You voted in record numbers, whittling the list of Moonman hopefuls for Best Male Video and Best Female Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards down to the final five, as the nominees were revealed Friday (July 25).
After thousands of votes on VMA.MTV.com (along with ballots from select industry insiders), two diverse battles are set. A pair of legendary pop icons will square off against two relative newcomers and one wily underdog in the fight for Best Female Video. Pop queen Britney Spears takes another step on the comeback trail as her "Piece of Me" grabs a nomination, while Mariah Carey will try to end her VMA dry spell with "Touch My Body." "American Idol" champ Jordin Sparks scores a nomination for her Chris Brown collaboration "No Air," and Rihanna is in the running as well with "Take a Bow." Quirky long shot Katy Perry rounds out the Best Female race with her cheeky summer anthem "I Kissed a Girl."
Meanwhile, hip-hop's hot streak continues in the Best Male Video category as two of the hottest MCs in the game face off against some of R&B's leading men. Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" exploded this year, so it's no surprise that he's in the running, along with T.I., whose "No Matter What" chronicles his struggles over the past year. Chris Brown and Usher made the list with "With You" and "Love in This Club" respectively, and Flo Rida is in the mix with "Low."
Of course, when one door closes, another opens, my friends — voting in two other categories is now officially open at VMA.MTV.com. Hundreds of hopefuls will now duke it out in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Pop Video categories! The nominees will be announced on next Friday's installment of "FNMTV." After that, two more rounds of voting remain to determine the nominees for Best Dancing in a Video, Best New Artist, Best Rock Video and the highly coveted Video of the Year.
The 25th VMAs will take place at the legendary Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on September 7. The Jonas Brothers are confirmed to perform, and British funnyman and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" co-star Russell Brand was just announced as the show's host.

Lil Wayne Sued By Rolling Stones Publisher Over 'Playing With Fire'

Add Lil Wayne to the long list of rappers who have been sued for allegedly sampling songs without permission or proper credit. Only on Thursday, Abkco Music Inc., a musical publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones' classic "Play With Fire," filed suit against Weezy not for using an unauthorized sample, but for what it said was an unauthorized release of an altered version of the song.
According to a Reuters report, the lawsuit, filed in federal court in New York, charges copyright infringement and unfair competition and is seeking unspecified damages.
The issue is over a profanity-laced bonus track from Weezy's smash album Tha Carter III, called "Playing With Fire," which does not list any samples in its credits.
In the song's chorus, blues belter Betty Wright growls the line, "But you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire," which has similar wording to the Stones tune's chorus: "But don't play with me/ 'Cause you're playing with fire." Wright sings the line with a different cadence and emphasis than Stones singer Mick Jagger.
Wayne's song begins with Wright singing, "So you've got so many diamonds/ You wear all the finest clothes/ And you grill is shining/ As you're driving down the streets of gold/ But you can't blame me if I set this thing on fire." The Stones version begins with the lines: "Well, you've got your diamonds and you've got your pretty clothes/ And the chauffeur drives your car/ You let everybody know/ But don't play with me/ 'Cause you're playing with fire."
Abkco's suit claims that the Wayne track is a clear derivative of the Stones song with the original music and lyrics altered in a recognizable way. The company also says in the suit that Wayne's version uses "explicit, sexist and offensive language" and might lead the public to believe the company and the Stones approved of and authorized the new version.
A spokesperson for Wayne could not be reached for comment at press time.

Lil Wayne Plays A Modern-Day Robin Hood In 'Got Money'

Cash Money Millionaire Lil Wayne always has the dough, but in his new video for "Got Money," he's giving back to the community — just not with his own moolah. Based loosely on Spike Lee's "Inside Man," Weezy is practically a modern-day Robin Hood as he plays one of the masterminds of a bank heist in which he and his team plan to give the loot to the citizens in his New Orleans hometown as compensation for what they lost because of Hurricane Katrina.
Toward the beginning of the clip, Weezy and his model-looking accomplices storm the bank and strong-arm the establishment. While the workers empty the vaults, Wayne makes it rain, letting his hostages get some of the greenbacks. During the performance scenes, Wayne's collaborator T-Pain joins in, wearing a T-shirt that says "He Sings ... ," while Wayne's shirt reads "He Raps ... ." And there are a bunch of other guests, such as Ray J, but we won't spoil the surprise.
We can give away that Wayne's artist Mack Mane (remember when Wayne says, "Mack, I'm going in," at the beginning of "A Milli"?) raps the last verse, making the TV version a remix of sorts. The video debuts Monday on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Jams, MTV Hits and MTV.com, with airings all day starting at 6 a.m. ET.
The N.O. Fireman hasn't just been showing up on his own music-video sets. He recently completed clips with David Banner for "Shawty Say" and the Game for "My Life." The latter finds Wayne and his West Coast homey doing some soul-searching in a graveyard, among other places.

CHRIS BROWN TAPPED FOR DANCE COMPETITION SHOW: Mark Burnett behind new series set in world of hip hop and street dance.

*R&B sensation Chris Brown has agreed to lend his star power to a new dance competition series from reality show gurus Mark Burnett and J.D. Roth, via their respective Mark Burnett Prods. and 3 Ball Prods. shingles.
According to Variety, the untitled series will center on the world of hip-hop and street dance culture, with contestants battling each another in impromptu dance-offs. Brown will appear in every episode to help determine which B-boy or B-girl moves on to the next round.
The show is being developed as an hour-long performance series that will have an elimination episode as well. Brown would be at the center, although an as-yet-unnamed host and other judges may also be involved.
A title has yet to be chosen, but "Chris Brown Presents" will likely be included in the name, Variety reports.
"Chris Brown really is a superstar, and someone who lives and breathes music and dance — so his credibility is massive in this arena," said Burnett, who recruited Brown to open this year's MTV Movie Awards. "It's his show; he's headlining it. He's the final arbiter on those who win and those who don't."
Brown adds, "Dancing is more than just a way of moving, it's a different expression of music. That's what I want to focus on with this show."

Ne-Yo is the now star of R'n'B

What US r'*'b star could be more 'now' than Ne-Yo? He's the focus of masses of teenage dreams, the ringtone on countless mobiles and he even makes baby-faced blockbuster crooners such as Usher look relatively worn out.
Ne-Yo is more of a precocious young buck than an enfant terrible; he represents the very modern notion that entertainers should also be entrepreneurs and he has penned mega-hits for artists including Beyoncé, Rihanna and Chris Brown.
And yet, there's an old-fashioned flavour to his appeal (and his jaunty fashion sense). Ne-Yo's pulsing serenades are mostly about respecting the laydeez while still trying to get into their scanties - something for everyone, then.
This live date should preview material from his forthcoming third album, Year Of The Gentleman, now scheduled for a mid-September release. Judging by a taster of new tracks such as Miss Independent and the latest single, Closer, he's stuck to cosily familiar themes and sweetly catchy melodies, which should slide in smoothly alongside established hits such as Because Of You and Sexy Love.
What remains to be seen is whether Ne-Yo's stage presence can exude all the vocal assurance and fancy footwork of his monochrome videos; this 'intimate' venue within the O2 arena seems well suited to his smoochy brand of mainstream r'*'b. Tonight, you could find out what really maketh the loverman. Arwa Haider

Publisher Throws the Book at Foxy Brown, Lil Kim

Being incarcerated may be a pretty good excuse, but Simon & Schuster apparently doesn't care what led to Lil Kim and Foxy Brown's writers block.
The New York-based publisher sued the rappers Thursday, intending to get its money back after paying out generous advances for books that the ladies never completed.
According to the dual lawsuits filed in New York State Supreme Court, Simon & Schuster gave Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, $40,000 in 2003 for a novel that was supposed to be finished the following year. Brown was then paid $75,000 in 2005 to pen her autobiography, which was tentatively titled Broken Silence.
"Both accepted the money, and both books never were delivered," S&S spokesman Adam Rothberg told Bloomberg.com.
Since then, however, both hip-hop stars have spent time behind bars for various offenses—Brown for violating her probation multiple times after finally being sentenced for a 2004 fight in a Manhattan nail shop, and Kim for perjury and conspiracy after lying to a grand jury about her friend's involvement in a 2001 shooting.
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was released in April after serving eight months of a yearlong sentence. Kim's been a free bird since July 2006, when she flew the coop after spending 10 months behind bars.
But even with all that life experience under their belts, neither MC has done enough prosaic musing to satisfy Simon & Schuster, which also published 50 Cent's autobiography and books penned by members of his G-Unit crew.

"Distraught" Justin Withdraws From Drew's Film

A source tells E! News that Justin Long, who remains "distraught" over being dumped by the Charlie's Angels star, has dropped out of the roller derby comedy "Whip It!" which marks Barrymore's feature directorial debut.
"He couldn't stand working with her and not being with her," the Long insider says. "He's too upset."
Adds our source: "She dumped him. She was hot and cold. One minute she was in love with him amd the next she wanted to break up with him.
"He is so distraught over the split that he dropped out of the movie."
Chris Miller, a rep for Flower Films (Barrymore's production company with partner Nancy Juvonen), would not confirm whether Long had been formally attached to the project, saying, "It's bordering on his personal life," and directing E! News to Long's rep.
"We never comment on cast," Miller added.
Long’s publicist, Carrie Gordon, did not immediately return calls for comment.
Whip It!, based on the book Derby Girls, which is about the life of a female roller derby player, begins shooting Monday in Michigan. Starring alongside Barrymore are Ellen Page, Juliette
Lewis, Marcia Gay Harden, Zoe Bell and Kristen Wiig.
Reps for Long, 30, and Barrymore, 33, confirmed the formerly PDA-happy couple's breakup on July 7. The He's Just Not That Into You costars had dated for almost nine months and had celebrated Long’s birthday together in June.
The duo also made a trek to see a live roller derby event in Los Angeles as preparation for the movie.

Jessica Simpson Packs a Posse for Shoot

Jessica Simpson was full of holiday cheer today.
And a full entourage, as well. I'm told there were at least a half a dozen people in her posse when she arrived to shoot her Macy's commercial this morning in Brooklyn, N.Y...
"She also had her dog in a Louis Vuitton carrier," a source reports. "And her mom may have even been there, too."
Simpson (left, leaving her Manhattan hotel for the shoot) was expected to finish her bit in less than a day.
The source reports that the campaign—directed for the second year in a row by big-time Hollywood helmer Barry Levinson—includes two different scenarios. One features a woman trying to get ready for a date, and another centers around the famous "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" newspaper editorial from 1897.
Simpson will be promoting her shoe line in the ads. As I told you yesterday, Martha Stewart, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger and What Not to Wear host Clinton Kelly are part of the campaign.

Did Lindsay Lohan really dump Samantha Ronson?

Lindsay Lohan broke up with her girlfriend Samantha Ronson just before the two were popped by paparazzi leaving the Waverly Inn in New York City on Tuesday night.
I find that hard to believe since both Lindsay and Sam looked awfully happy in aforementioned photos, but you never can tell.
Here's Gawker's story:
"One of our inside New York sources, Guest of a Guest spotted the actress/deejay duo at the Waverly Inn last night, a Gotham hotspot frequented by all of the Big Apple's most in-the-know glitterati. All seemed well enough as they dashed out of a sleek black SUV and past the usual swarm of paparazzi into the restaurant. But then things got ugly! Our source tells us:
"We really did not pay much attention to them once we were seated, except at the end of their meal when Lindsay stood up and stepped/stumbled on [my friend's] foot. Without looking back or apologizing she headed straight out the door. We guess her exit was spontaneous as Samantha was behind her sputtering: 'Are you leaving?' 'Lindsay are you leaving?' 'I guess she’s leaving.' 'She just left!'"
What do you think? Is the lesbian love between Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson over?!

T-Pain Says He And Lil Wayne Are Making Progress On Joint Album, But First Up Is His Thr33 Ringz LP

We've had it all wrong: T-Pain isn't actually Teddy Penderazdoun. They're two different people ... well, entities. Pain is still Pain, but Teddy P is about a foot taller and North Carolina Tar Heel blue.
Pain introduced the mascot to MTV News last week on the set of his album photo shoot. Pain's LP Thr33 Ringz is due in September. DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes and Pain's partner in crime, Lil
Wayne, are all present and accounted for on the record. T-Pain also told us that his project with Weezy is definitely taking shape. "T-Wayne is an entity that's just gonna take over a side of the game," Pain prophesied. "It's two artists that done collaborated with every artist in the industry except each other. Being that we getting together, this T-Wayne movement is getting crazy.
"He's sending me blank tracks, I'm sending him blank tracks," Pain elaborated on the project. "He's sending me tracks with hooks, I'm sending him tracks with hooks. It's just our hectic schedules are keeping us from recording. ... But we both have studios on the bus. So we take that tour bus anywhere we go — it's a done deal."

Pain and Wayne collaborated on the next single from Tha Carter III, "Got Money," as well as the first official single from Thr33 Ringz, "Can't Believe It."
" 'Can't Believe It,' I just wanted to simplify things," he said. "Basically I got a lot of stuff on my albums that's not that simple. I'm not getting away from the simplicity of things, it's just basically a way to calm things down. Then I put Wayne on it and he keeps murdering tracks I'm sending him. It's just another world, it's unexplainable."
Pain describes the meaning of Thr33 Ringz as music being a three-ring circus with him as the ringleader.

Rapper Lil Wayne sued for Stones copyright breach

A musical publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones' song "Play With Fire" sued U.S. rapper Lil Wayne on Thursday, saying he released an altered version of the song without permission.
Abkco Music Inc accused Lil Wayne, his artistic collaborators and his record company, a unit of Universal Music Group, of copyright infringement and unfair competition.
The lawsuit filed in federal court in Manhattan seeks unspecified damages.
Lil Wayne's "Playing with Fire" is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones song with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way, Abkco said in its lawsuit.
In one example, the lawsuit said a lyric from the Stones song is "But don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire," and the Lil Wayne version has the line, "But you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire."
Representatives for Lil Wayne and Universal, owned by the French company Vivendi, were not immediately available for comment.
Abkco also said that Lil Wayne's version uses "explicit, sexist and offensive language" and could lead the public to believe the company and the Rolling Stones approved of and authorized the new version.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, was proclaimed rapper of the year in 2007 by The New Yorker magazine.

Debate:Ronaldinho At Milan-Boon Or Bane?

So the big transfer story of the summer has eventually come to fruition. Ronaldinho has moved from FC Barcelona to AC Milan with all three parties eagerly expressing their unbridled gladness. Barca have pocketed €21 million, Milan have added another gem to their crown while Ronnie is heaving a huge sigh of relief after he finally shipped out of Catalunya. Yet the doubts linger on. After all, Ronaldinho doesn’t arrive in Milan on the back of a great season. Instead, he arrives on the back of his worst ever season, a season in which he was dumped out of the squad by the then Barca coach Frank Rijkaard, in which he himself pulled out of several matches on matchday mornings, in which he fell out with the fans who had for four seasons fanatically worshipped him. But more importantly perhaps for AC Milan, the big question is whether the signing of Ronaldinho is something good for the club or not. It might seem obscenely ludicrous to many to even remotely doubt that signing the two times former FIFA World Player of the Year is detrimental for Milan but exploring the situation would exhibit that the circus is not all about fun and thrill at all. The Kaka Transfer Story No sooner had Ronaldinho stepped in Milan than his Brazilian compatriot Kaka seemed to step out of the city. The previously murmuring rumours of Chelsea(and at times Real Madrid) hunting the current FIFA Word Player’s signature became a vicious avalanche as Milan admitted that Chelsea had indeed made a huge offer(according to reports €100 million) for the player, an offer which Milan insist they have rejected. Not that one can swallow Milan’s stance on the affair without a hiccup or two. The player’s agent admitted that the player was more likely to move to Chelsea to rejoin his former Brazilian national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari since he wanted to play in the UEFA Champions League next season and could also inflate his bank account by €15 million. Now all these days Kaka has gone on public record to disclaim any reports of moving out of Milan. But suddenly his position at the Rossoneri appeared(and appears) to stutter. Kaka is a very pious young man, someone who was born and bred in a cultured and devoutly evangelical family and who has ideals and values but suddenly the myth that Kaka was never going to leave Milan needs a revision. Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani announced that Ronaldinho would be allowed to play in the Olympics, implying that Ronnie would be given everything that he wants to make himself comfortable, but the club is disinclined to let Kaka do the same, which given the 26-year old’s desire to play for his nation in the biggest sporting event in the world, has reportedly and understandably but unwittingly constructed a chasm. The Clarence Seedorf Controversy And then there was the Clarence Seedorf warning. Just days before the deal between Milan and Barcelona saw the light of the day, the (former?) Dutch international midfielder claimed that signing Ronaldinho would be a huge mistake for Milan as the club did not need him. Soon after Ronnie was signed by Milan Seedorf made it clear that he wouldn’t do away with the number 10 shirt, hinting Ronnie to f*** off. The Marco Borriello Threat Ronaldinho might be going through arguably the worst blue patch in his career but at AC Milan he can still aspire to be given the nod ahead of several players. Marco Borriello’s agent has announced that he is looking for a new club for his client while the formation of Carlo Ancelotti's side and the future of some young players appear to be enshrouded in uncertainly in the wake of the arrival of the 2002 World Cup winner. Blessing Or Curse? Ronaldinho is supposed to be a boon for a Milan side that desperately seeks reinforcement and fresh legs. While Ronaldinho is still a classy player, maybe even a legend, you have to be naïve to blindly believe that Ronnie can singlehandedly drag Milan out of the mess. Ronaldinho first needs to pick himself up and regain match fitness and more importantly try and accommodate himself into the Milan set-up rather than have the Milan set-up accommodate him(although given the welcome Ronnie has received at Milan, he could well expect the club to bow down to his wishes). A whisper of doubt remains on whether Ronaldinho can play along with Kaka in the Milan midfield or not. He has not quite gelled with Kaka so far for Brazil as both appear to trim each other out of spaces. And more importantly, it remains to be seen how Ancelotti accommodates Ronnie on his favoured left channel. Ronaldinho is the face of world football even now when he is stagnated in the doldrums and does have the capability to turn himself on. But given his reported hunger for nightclubs, there might be some problem with him again at Milan. And if you mark the words of Seedorf and Borriello’s agent, then the dressing room is already getting heated. So is Ronaldnho a boon or a bane for AC Milan? Would he turn out to be a blessing or a curse? What do you fans think of the matter?

Rapper DMX denies theft charges, sings at court

PHOENIX (Reuters) - Chart-topping rapper DMX pleaded not guilty to a pair of felony theft charges in a Phoenix court on Thursday, and then treated reporters to an impromptu rap about bouncing back from adversity.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was charged with one count of theft and one count of taking someone else's identity.
The charges stemmed from a visit Simmons made to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, in April during which he gave his name as "Troy Jones," allegedly to avoid paying for treatment.
After denying the charges, he serenaded reporters waiting outside the Maricopa County Superior Court.
"If and when you ever fall down, get back up," Simmons began, according to a censored recording on a local radio station's Web site.
"Drop something, stop fretting, pick that ... back up, stand for something or fall for everything, wait for the right pitch or miss with every swing," Simmons sang.
The 37-year-old rapper is next due to appear in court on August 12.
Simmons, who has a home outside Phoenix, has been involved in a string of legal tangles. In May, he was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and animal cruelty after searches of his home allegedly turned up weapons, drugs, dog carcasses and abused pit bulls.
In 2006, he served more than two months at New York's Rikers Island jail in connection with a 2004 incident when he smashed his sport utility vehicle into a gate at John F. Kennedy Airport after identifying himself as a federal agent.

His first five albums opened at No. 1 on the U.S. pop album charts, but his most recent release, 2006's "Year of the Dog ... Again," ended that run by debuting at No. 2. Simmons has also acted in several action movies, including "Cradle 2 The Grave" and "Exit Wounds."

Russell Brand's MTV Bedtime for Jonas Brothers

You may not automatically know who Russell Brand is when you hear his name, but that's probably going to change on Sept. 7.
The British bad-boy comedian, who played rehabbed rocker Aldous Snow in the recent Judd Apatow-produced hit Forgetting Sarah Marshall, was named today as host of MTV's Video Music Awards.
Brand has a history with the network. He was fired from his gig as a VJ on MTV in London after he came to work dressed as Osama Bin Laden on Sept. 12, 2001.
"I didn't mention [the incident] to them when they offered me this gig," Brand told me this afternoon from his home in London, "which leads me to believe that they haven't investigated my career history too closely."
MTV signed Brand for the VMAs after producers saw his standup act at L.A.'s famed Roxy Theatre.
"I'm planning to have lesbian kisses with Britney and Madonna individually," Brand said. "It's not going to be easy what with my genitals, but God, I will try."
Past hosts have included Jack Black, Chris Rock, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jimmy Fallon and Jamie
foxx.
Those are some mighty big shoes to fill. "I thought I might trust my luck and improvise," Brand said. "I'll have a couple of glasses of gin and just stagger out there and bellow with the Jonas Brothers."
The gin part is definitely a joke. Brand, who has been very open about his battle with substance abuse, has been sober for a number of years.
But being clean doesn't mean he won't be looking for some dirty fun during the awards show, which will telecast live from Hollywood's Paramount lot. Let's just hope no one dares him to cop a cheap feel with any number of the starlets who will be in the audience.
"One night, Chrissie Hynde encouraged me to touch Rosanna Arquette's breasts," Brand recalled with a laugh about the aforementioned Roxy gig. "And I did it. She said, 'Feel Roseanna's breasts. They're real.' It was a good experience."
But he promises not to go that far come VMA time...or does he? "No one will thank me for touching breasts during the show," he said. "But I can almost guarantee a Janet Jackson-style Super Bowl nip slip."
Expect plenty of ribbing of the Jonas Brothers, who will be making their VMA-performance debut. "We may have to cancel them, because I don't think the show will be early enough for them," Brand cracked about the JoBros. "Those boys will be sent promptly to bed if I come across them."

Fall Out Boy, T.I. Team Up For Personal Song With 'Nightmare Before Christmas' Sound

On the surface (or pretty much any other level), T.I. and Fall Out Boy don't have much in common. But that hasn't stopped them from joining forces on a new track, which is in line to appear on the rapper's upcoming Paper Trail album.
MTV News listened to a rough demo of the song, tentatively called "Out in the Cold" last week in Los Angeles, and judging from what we heard, fans of both camps are going to be rather surprised by the results.
Starting off with chiming electronic stabs — which Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz likened to "something from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' " — the song is somber and emotional, loaded with dramatic, crashing guitars, soaring strings and the King of the South's deeply personal lyrics, which detail the trials and tribulations he's endured over the past year.
"Biggie and 'Pac's murders still unsolved/ And you wonder why I got 'em in the car and the trunk," T.I. raps at one point, addressing his arrest on weapons charges late last year. Later in the song, he makes mention of threats against his home and of "tying up [his] family" and adds that, while he's hired security for protection, "What happens when it freezes up again, like it did in Cincinnati?" — a reference to the 2006 shooting death of his friend Philant Johnson in that city.
And while he's defiant throughout, there are also moments where Tip lets his guard down. At another point in the song, he apologizes for his arrest and admits he's done wrong, specifically saying that he "Call[ed] on God" and prayed deeply for forgiveness during his weapons trial.
But the autobiographical stuff doesn't end there. Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump sings the hook on the track, and he plumbs the same depths, bellowing, "I drink to forget/ I write so I never will/ Curse myself/ Down and out for all time/ I'm always leaving you high and dry/ I'm always leaving you out in the cold."
It's all pretty powerful stuff, made even more so by the track itself, which, though it's infused with skittering drum patterns and synthesizers, was actually one that FOB had intended to use on their upcoming album, according to Wentz (though this seems to fly in the face of his earlier,"riff-heavy" description of the record"

"That actually was a part we had written in between Infinity on High and when we went to Chile on tour," Wentz told MTV News. "After hearing about the chance to do a collaboration with someone like T.I., we thought, 'How amazing would it be to send him something with strings and a Danny Elfman-like intro that Patrick came up with?' Lyrically you can take it as [being about] a friend, a lover or even a fan."
A spokesperson for T.I.'s label, Atlantic, confirmed to MTV News that "Out in the Cold" is "in consideration" for Tip's Paper Trail, which hits stores in September. If the song makes the cut, it wouldn't be FOB's first foray into the world of hip-hop. Jay-Z collaborated with them on the opening track to 2006's Infinity on High album, and Stump sang the hook on the Roots' "Birthday Girl," though that song ended up being cut from the group's Rising Down album

Timbaland Working On Shock Value Sequel

Timbaland is currently working on the follow-up to his smash album Shock Value. The follow-up, entitled Shock Value 2 already has a few tracks completed and according to MTV News, Tim wants to stay away from working with some of the same folks he included last time, just to keep everyone guessing.
"Shock Value is really like the Now [That's What I Call Music!] compilation," he said. "That's my goal for this — not [to showcase] me as an artist. Of course I'll do my little part, introduce some people. It gives me room to go tour across the world. People request me. I put on a show. I put on a musical show."
"Right now, I have a song with Madonna that I didn't put on her album. I saved [it] in case I wanna do one for me," he revealed. "Of course I'mma do one with Beyoncé. Of course I'mma do one with Jordin Sparks, Rihanna. It's a lot of people. I'mma do one with The Jonas Brothers. I'mma try to have 10 major ones."
The producer also told MTV News that there will be guest appearances by Hip-Hop artists including T.I., T-Pain and Jay-Z. "Jay was really on the last one, but he wanted to change [the song]," Tim told MTV. "I said, 'Look, man, I gotta put out an album. You're killing me.'"
Besides working on Shock Value 2, Timbaland recently said he may be producing one of Jay-Z’s upcoming LP’s in its entirety. He has also been working with Missy Elliot and Chris Cornell.

Lindsay Lohan Holding Hands With Samantha Ronson

Haven’t said much about Lindsay Lohan in a while now so it was about time. Couple of things happened with the girl, but they are all good things.
First she is back on the set of Ugly Betty, second she is not afraid anymore to show her affection for Samantha in public. They are seen more often holding hands or hugging, but no kissing.
Now when you are 13th and you are holding hands with your best girl friend that’s nothing wrong in that but when you 22 and you live in the same house with your bgf and you are holding hands and hugging and kissing with her something is not ok.
I just hope these two will admit they love each other and that they are together. I don’t think anyone has something against it; it’s so great feeling to be in love. They shouldn’t be ashamed and hide.

Batman's Marriage Not in Trouble

Sources close to the couple tell "The Insider" that the rumors that Bale's 8-year-marriage to Sandra 'Sibi' Blazic, seen above with Christian and his mother, is under pressure are untrue. Sources tell "The Insider" that their 8-year long marriage is solid and thriving despite a report in today's London Daily Mail which claims that the alleged fracas with his mother and sister, "apparently comes at a time when his marriage to Sandra 'Sibi' Bale;... is enduring difficulties." The London Daily Mail is reporting the Batman star allegedly "flew into a rage after his mother allegedly insulted his wife."
"The Insider" is also debunking another rumor surrounding Bale. For years, the media has reported that his daughter's name is Emmeline, but Bale's rep now tells "The Insider" that is not true and that Bale has never revealed the name of his daughter.
Meanwhile, sources close to the actor tell the paper Bale allegedly confronted his mother at London's Dorchester hotel after Jenny Bale allegedly said "some outrageous things."
Bale was arrested and released yesterday in London over an assault allegation which he has denied to "The Insider." The London Mail is also reporting a source close to the actor says Bale is confident he has done nothing wrong and "did not lay a finger on anyone."
"The Insider" also confirmed that Bale's wife and daughter are scheduled to travel with him to Tokyo for Monday's premiere of 'The Dark Knight,' which Warner Brothers has confirmed just surpassed the $200 million mark. After the Japanese premiere, Bale will head straight to New Mexico to continue filming his next blockbuster, 'Terminator Salvation,' due to be released in May 2009.

Selena Gomez's Song About Nick Jonas?

Has Selena Gomez been writing songs about her rumored boyfriend Nick Jonas?
A source claims that back in February, the star of Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place wrote a song inspired by the youngest brother of the hitmaking Jonas Brothers trio.
"They were writing lyrics for the bridge, and she was saying how Nick makes her so mad when he doesn't call her back," the source tells E! News about the tune, titled "Head First." "The verse was definitely written about Nick Jonas."
The source claims (as did
People magazine yesterday) that Gomez, 16, and Jonas, 15, have been an item for several months.
Gomez's rep, however, insists the two are nothing more than a couple of good buddies.
"She is friends with all of the Jonas Brothers," the rep said. "Her best friend, Demi Lovato, is on tour with them, so it makes sense that she's been at some of their shows."
Just last month, Gomez predicted her personal life would undoubtedly become tabloid fodder. "Sometimes you can get caught up in the media, but I've just learned to not let it bother me, and I know that it's only going to get worse," she told me. "I think that with the support of my friends and family, that's all I need to pull me through

An Oscar for Heath Ledger in 'The Dark Knight'?

Thanks to The Dark Knight, you might actually care about the Oscars next year. Though summer blockbusters don't usually show up in the big races at the Academy Awards, the film's glowing reviews make it a possible contender in the Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay categories, and it will surely be considered a front-runner for technical prizes. But its greatest Oscar hope has to be Heath Ledger, who'll likely become the seventh-ever posthumous acting nominee for his mesmerizing performance as the Joker. And it's safe to say that several million Dark Knight fans would tune in to the telecast to see if he can become the second such winner (after Network's Peter Finch in 1977).
The Academy Awards could use the boost. For the last several years, the gala has been filled with lesser-known nominees and seen its ratings plummet. This past ceremony, all four acting winners were foreigners, only one major-category victor (Juno) grossed more than $75 million—and the show attracted an all-time-low audience of 32 million.
Next year's telecast could end up being quite the A-list affair. Possible contenders include Brad Pitt, who ages in reverse for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; Angelina Jolie, playing the mother of a missing child in Clint Eastwood's Changeling; Will Smith, reteaming with Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino, in the character study Seven Pounds; Nicole Kidman, once more under the tutelage of Moulin Rouge maestro Baz Luhrmann in the epic Australia; and the Titanic duo of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who'll reunite for the first time in the suburban drama Revolutionary Road.
Of course, not all of next year's nomination slots will be filled by blockbusters. But the presence of hits like The Dark Knight could go a long way toward keeping Oscar viewers from changing the Bat-channel. What say you, PopWatchers? Does Ledger deserve to be in the running for an Oscar nod? If the Academy starts paying more attention to well-crafted popcorn flicks, would it raise your overall interest in the Oscar telecast? (And if you can't wait for this week's EW cover story on The Dark Knight,
