Shortly before their Bora Bora wedding, Eddie Murphy allegedly showed a side of his personality that was scary enough to drive away would-be bride Tracey Edmonds.
Insiders told the New York Post's Page Six that Murphy pulled a Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde on Edmonds, changing from a charmer to a bossy bully who wanted his mother on their honeymoon.
"That was kind of the last straw," Tracey's friend told Page Six. "She was happy to sign a prenup — she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eddie became very controlling and they got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared."
Representatives for both the former bride and groom refused to comment, reports Page Six.
However, last week Murphy announced, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forgo having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further ... we have decided to remain friends."
He didn't elaborate on which personality this friendship included.

Eddie Murphy has made quick work of one New Year's resolution.
The Shrek star swapped vows with fiancée Tracey Edmonds Tuesday on a private island off Bora Bora, reps for the newlyweds confirmed to E! News.
The couple sealed the deal in "an intimate sunset ceremony" on the beach as 25 friends and family members looked on.
Edmonds was sheathed in a custom number by the tandem of Sugia Nazel and Jill Baracci, described in a statement as "off-white with a beaded French lace and silk tafetta ruffled train."
The bride marched down the aisle to the strains of Gladys Knight's "Makings of You," per People magazine, which also reported the wedding party included R&B singer Johnny Gill, who served as Murphy's best man, and actress Nicole Avant, the maid of honor.
The couple had been busy making final preparations in recent days. E! Online senior editor Marc Malkin reported guests arrived in nearby Tahiti shortly after Christmas. Bora Bora is about 140 miles northwest of the main French Polynesian outpost.
This is the second marriage for both.
The 40-year-old Edmonds, a film producer whose recent credits include Who's Your Caddy? and Good Luck Chuck, was previously hitched to Grammy-winning singer-producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. They divorced in June 2006 after 13 years and two children.
Murphy, 46, was previously married to Nicole Mitchell, with whom he has five children. They divorced in April 2006. In the months that followed, Murphy began seeing Spice Girl Melanie Brown. He started dating Edmonds while Brown was pregnant with his child.
Brown gave birth to Angel Iris Murphy Brown. In a bit of karmic coincidence, the infant was born Apr. 3, sharing a birthday with her reluctant father.
Murphy and Edmonds announced their engagement in July, after about 10 months of couplehood.

Eddie Murphy will wed fiancée Tracey Edmonds this weekend in the South Pacific, according to Internet reports. Sources claim the couple and family members arrived in Tahiti on Friday for the low-key nuptials. And insiders tell PlanetGossip.Eonline.com that top-secret fittings for the bride and her bridesmaids took place earlier in the week. Edmonds, the former wife of music mogul Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, revealed she and Murphy were planning to wed before the end of 2007 back in October. She told Sister 2 Sister magazine she envisioned "a very intimate ceremony," adding, "My bridal party would be much smaller than my first wedding." Murph proposed to Edmonds in July, while the two were watching TV. She has revealed he walked over to her casually, and then surprised her by getting on his knees. She asked him what he was doing and he replied, "I'm about to ask you to marry me," before he presented her with a canary yellow square diamond, surrounded by two white diamonds in a platinum setting. She recalls, "I was speechless for a moment when I first saw it."
