Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey Among MTV VMA Nominees For Best Male, Female Video

We asked for your help, and you did not disappoint. You voted in record numbers, whittling the list of Moonman hopefuls for Best Male Video and Best Female Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards down to the final five, as the nominees were revealed Friday (July 25).
After thousands of votes on VMA.MTV.com (along with ballots from select industry insiders), two diverse battles are set. A pair of legendary pop icons will square off against two relative newcomers and one wily underdog in the fight for Best Female Video. Pop queen Britney Spears takes another step on the comeback trail as her "Piece of Me" grabs a nomination, while Mariah Carey will try to end her VMA dry spell with "Touch My Body." "American Idol" champ Jordin Sparks scores a nomination for her Chris Brown collaboration "No Air," and Rihanna is in the running as well with "Take a Bow." Quirky long shot Katy Perry rounds out the Best Female race with her cheeky summer anthem "I Kissed a Girl."
Meanwhile, hip-hop's hot streak continues in the Best Male Video category as two of the hottest MCs in the game face off against some of R&B's leading men. Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" exploded this year, so it's no surprise that he's in the running, along with T.I., whose "No Matter What" chronicles his struggles over the past year. Chris Brown and Usher made the list with "With You" and "Love in This Club" respectively, and Flo Rida is in the mix with "Low."
Of course, when one door closes, another opens, my friends — voting in two other categories is now officially open at VMA.MTV.com. Hundreds of hopefuls will now duke it out in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Pop Video categories! The nominees will be announced on next Friday's installment of "FNMTV." After that, two more rounds of voting remain to determine the nominees for Best Dancing in a Video, Best New Artist, Best Rock Video and the highly coveted Video of the Year.
The 25th VMAs will take place at the legendary Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on September 7. The Jonas Brothers are confirmed to perform, and British funnyman and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" co-star Russell Brand was just announced as the show's host.

Britney Spears is relishing her new role on "How I Met Your Mother." Spears has been taping her much-hyped cameo on the CBS sitcom for the March 24 episode, in which she portrays a receptionist in a dermatologist's office named Abby who crushes on Ted (Josh Radnor).
more stories like this"Working at `How I Met Your Mother' has been so terrific," Spears said in a statement Thursday. "Everyone, including the cast, the crew and the producers, has been wonderful and Abby is such a fun girl to play. I'm having a blast!"
CBS spokesman Kelli Raftery said Spears attended a table reading with the cast on Monday, did a "run-through" on Tuesday and filmed scenes Wednesday. Raftery confirmed reports that Spears' divorced parents -- James and Lynne -- dropped by the "Mother" set on Wednesday.
Spears was scheduled to shoot scenes Thursday.
Radnor told People.com that "on the first day of the shoot, Britney knew her lines better than I knew mine. She's been great to work with."
Spears has previous TV sitcom experience playing a character on a 2006 episode of "Will and Grace." She was also the host and musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" in 2000.
"How I Met Your Mother," returning Monday with all-new episodes following the writers strike, co-stars Radnor, Jason Segal, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris as twentysomethings living in New York City.

Britney Spears Doesn’t Need Kim Kardashian’s Help!

Hollywood socialite and sex tape superstar Kim Kardashian has decided to lend Britney Spears a hand of support by offering to give the pop tart a makeover. Kardashian, who owns a boutique in Hollywood, says she "would love, love, love to give Britney Spears a makeover."
Kim Kardashian: Photo Credit: Rachel Worth/ WENN"I think that she is so cute and sweet and has a great style," adds the reality star.

Newsflash Kim: Britney doesn't need your help.
And I bet the American pop icon would appreciate it if you didn't use her name to gain publicity for own good.

Britney Spears Performing One Song for $4 Million?

Is Britney Spears a $4 million slave?
America's former pop icon may be one of the most troubled singers on the planet but that doesn't mean she's not in high demand.
The 26-year-old diva has reportedly been offered a whopping $4 million to perform one song to a group of wealthy sheikhs in Dubai.
The pop tart's trip would be all inclusive, complete with her very own private island so she can enjoy some privacy before her private performance.
So who's behind the big plan?
Britain's Daily Star claims that Brit-Brit was approached by Pakistani Sheeraz Hasan, who conveniently founded the website Hollywood.tv.
And which song do the prosperous fans want to hear?
I'm a Slave for You is their top pick, reports the website.
The only two questions remaining are whether Britney will accept the generous offer and whether her performance will actually be worth $4 million.

Spears Scares Schoolchildren?

Troubled pop star Britney Spears caused confusion at a Los Angeles school when she allegedly turned up and insisted she was there to pick up her kids.
Spears, whose two sons are currently in the custody of ex-husband Kevin Federline, is said to have arrived at the neighborhood elementary school in Beverly Hills earlier this week, telling other parents she had come to collect her children Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.
But when questioned further, the star allegedly changed her story.
A bystander tells Usmagazine.com, "She was just rambling and confused. She said, 'I'm here to pick up my kids.' But then she said, 'They aren't my kids; I have a new attorney, and I came to pick them up for her.' All I could think was, 'Who in their right mind would let her pick up their kids?'"
The witness goes on to add that the singer's chain smoking, skimpy outfit and erratic behavior scared the children, insisting "some of the kids were freaked out."
Spears was eventually driven off alone after being escorted out of the school's back entrance, according to the Web site.
The star is currently locked in a bitter custody battle with former husband Federline. She was stripped of all her custody and visitation rights earlier this month following a string of bizarre incidents including an apparent breakdown that saw the star hospitalized under a mental health order.

Allred attacks Spears' attorneys

The attorney representing Britney Spears' former bodyguard has poured scorn on the pop star's legal team for failing to get her into court.
Spears has failed to show for two crucial custody hearings this month, leaving celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred asking why the 'Toxic' singer's lawyers can't make her attend court hearings.
Allred says: "If she were my client, I'd have her in check and she'd be at court on time."
In the latest non-show incident on Wednesday, Spears reportedly arrived an hour late, walked into the Los Angeles courthouse and through a metal detector before telling her attorney she couldn't go through with a court appearance. She then fled.
On the same day, Allred grilled her client, the singer's former bodyguard Tony Barretto, as part of a deposition.
She adds: "We discussed several issues, including Britney's drug use, her nudity and her ability to drive with her children."
Allred tells America's 'In Touch Weekly' magazine that the two-hour deposition was in preparation for her client to testify in court when the Spears custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline goes to trial.

Paris and K-Fed: Just Friends?

BRITNEY SPEARS' ex-husband and former BFF, KEVIN FEDERLINE and PARIS HILTON, were spotted out together for New Year's Eve!
But the two are just friends -- and were among many celebs who partied it up in Las Vegas during the end of the year festivities.
Paris and her sister, NICKY, hosted a jam packed New Year's Eve bash at LAX club at the Luxor Hotel, where the famous father talked to "The Insider" about the end of 2007, saying "I'm trying to ring in the new year with my family, that's it, that's all I could ask for."

Spears' lawyers ask to quit custody case

Britney Spears' lawyers in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline are quitting.
The law firm Trope and Trope asked a court Wednesday to be relieved as Spears' attorneys. The firm says there's been a "breakdown" in communication with the pop princess that makes representing her "impossible," according to the filing, obtained by CelebTV.com.
A message left with a publicist for Spears' record label was not immediately returned.
Spears and Federline have been wrangling for months over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.
Federline has temporary custody because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and finalized their divorce in July.
On a separate legal front, an attorney for Spears wants the city attorney's office to prove that the pop star is a permanent California resident and is subject to state laws that require her to have a valid California driver's license.
Spears faces up to a year of probation if convicted in a misdemeanor case of driving without a valid license, a charge to which she has pleaded not guilty. The case stems from a videotaped fender-bender in a parking lot in August. A hit-and-run charge has been dismissed.
Spears attorney J. Michael Flanagan earlier Wednesday requested that prosecutors be required to demonstrate that Spears, who owns homes in Louisiana and Florida, intends to make Los Angeles her permanent legal home.
"If they can establish that Britney is domiciled here in California, that she permanently intends to stay here, then she does have a requirement to get a license," Flanagan said in an interview. "Basically, it's a fix-it ticket."
Flanagan said Spears had a valid Louisiana license at the time of the incident and got a California license six days after the complaint was filed.
A call seeking comment from the city attorney's office was not immediately returned. The next court date is Jan. 25.
